The good news is there is no wrong answer! Whether you fall in love with quartz or natural stone material first or have your heart set on a specific backsplash, either route will lead you to the kitchen of your dreams!
When exploring your options for backsplash, there are several design avenues you can take, but these are the 3 most popular choices for backsplash.
Backsplashes
The Classic 4” Matching “Lip”
This is a timeless, popular choice. It involves taking a 4 inch strip or “lip” of your exact countertop material and running it directly up the base of the wall. It offers a clean, simple protection right where most spills or splatters happen.
Traditional Tile
Tile remains the number one choice for a classic kitchen backsplash. This option involves individual tiles such as subway tile, mosaics or different tile patterns installed with grout lines. It gives you maximum flexibility to introduce new textures, colors and patterns to contrast or compliment your counters. Please note that Roc City Granite does not install this type of application and we recommend having tile backsplash installed after the installation of the countertops occurs.
FHBS
FHBS stands for Full Height Backsplash. Instead of using tile this option involves extending the actual stone countertop material all the way up the wall. This does not mean counter to ceiling, but instead means from counter to the bottom of upper cabinets which typically is 16-18.” Having your countertop material extend to the ceiling is an option but needs to be specified. Because this application uses the exact stone as your countertops, it creates a stunning seamless transition.
Lately we have seen a massive trend towards FHBS. It creates a bold high end look that makes the kitchen feel grand and unified. Because this application means your stone will be on full display vertically, the details matter. At Roc City Granite, we use a specialized program called SlabSmith when a customer chooses this application. This incredible software allows us to digitally photograph and map your specific stone slabs before we even make a cut. We can visually match the natural veins in the stone ensuring they flow effortlessly from the horizontal countertop right up the vertical backsplash. The results are a vein match that is (almost) perfectly seamless.
